What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet, hands, face, and ears which correspond to all parts of the body. The act of applying pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques elicits a physiological response in the body.
Reflexology is recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) as a separate and distinct bodywork discipline that is beneficial for pain management, stress reduction, improved body function and increased parasympathetic response (rest and digest). Reflexology typically elicits deep relaxation, promotes normalization of heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and blood cortisol levels (fight or flight hormones) and produces a calming effect on body, mind and spirit.
Increasingly, major medical centers and hospitals throughout New York State, other states and throughout the world are utilizing reflexology for its therapeutic effects.
*NYSRA (New York State Reflexology Association) is a premiere state reflexology association and is recognized nationally and internationally as a model organization.
